The Indian wardrobe staple, the white suit always evokes in me a sense of calm and elegance. I think almost no one can look bad in a white salwar suit. This is one item in your closet that is extremely versatile. You can wear a white suit almost everywhere in India. From poojas to a house warming, smaller festivities, temple visits, visiting relatives, to lunch, office events, weddings and well sadly to funerals too. You only have to change the degree of simplicity to the suit depending on the event.
Growing up in India one usually has the white salwar lying around in your closet. I remember it was the height of fashion in the 90’s to pair a white suit with a colorful dupatta. However my love for it truly began a few years ago. At work one day a colleague visiting us from Singapore wore the perfect white beautifully cut chikan work suit i have ever seen. She paired it with nude heeled peep toe shoes and a pair of simple gold hoops. She looked stunning, Simple yet sophisticated and elegant. When i saw her I did a double take ! I loved the way she looked. From that moment on the white suit has been my favorite item in my closet.I replenish my suits regularly and have one on hand, ironed and ready to wear at any given time.
My go to look for a religious event or a festive day event is to wear a simple white suit trimmed with silver paired with silver Jhumkas and either silver open toed flat sandals or silver Juttis. I also like an of white or cream suit with simple touches of gold for the evening.
My favorite whites to buy now for the upcoming summer is from Nicobar below :
