Recently when I met with a friend and we got around to talking about my blog. She mentioned to me that when she did eventually open a post on work wear on my blog, she found it wasn’t for her. This was because for one she wears mostly Indian wear to work and two, she also doesn’t wear high heels. So that got me thinking that I need to curate Indian wear for the modern working woman.
I like to wear typical traditional Indian wear for special occasions and events and for every day I like to wear Indo western. Indian wear today has been redefined by so many designers into a modern and contemporary aesthetic. Light weight weaves and fabrics make it so appropriate for our hot and humid climate. With traditional Indian embroidery added in a minimalistic way, I’ve come to love wearing Indo Western outfits for everyday. I like to keep my Indian wear light and minimalistic and team it with a luxe bag, fabulous jewelry and sexy shoes. But for those who choose the opposite, there is no dearth of patterns or textures or colors to choose from. And we can further make this whole look work for us in interesting and creative ways. In India we have access to the finest jewelry in a an array of options, traditional to the modern, gold , silver, copper, brass, thread you name and you have it here. You only have to visit a Fabindia, Jaypore , Westside, the flea markets, the umpteen exhibitions or just the backstreets of our shopping markets for those jewelry finds. Even our footwear and bags have all been given a modern eclectic touch. Lets all get creative shall we?
Here is what I envisage a modern woman wearing to work when she chooses Indian wear.
