Bhutan has been on my bucket list of places to go for a while now. But I haven’t made it happen yet. I m travel obsessed and while being in a frenetic and fast paced workplace had slowed me down earlier, its having a baby who is now a toddler that is holding me back from taking off on my next big adventure. So here I am planning and dreaming instead.
Now who wouldn’t want to go to a place which is described as pure Paradise, breathtakingly beautiful where nature has endowed Bhutan with a bounty, a place where “Gross National Happiness” is measured.I want to head to Bhutan for a week and stay at Taj Tashi in Thimphu and Uma Paro at Paro, eat a little Ema Datshi, made from chilli peppers and cheese and Momos, trek up to the mighty Tiger’s Nest Monastery, go visit a Dzong, try my hand at Biking maybe a catch a festival too, buy a few local textiles and crafts and take in the beauty of Bhutan in peace.
Here is what my sample itinerary would be like :
6 days in Bhutan
Day 1 – Arrive in Paro, After check in at the Uma Paro. Spend the day looking around Paro, taking it in. There are places of interest here like the Ta Dzong which is a National Musuem now,The Rinpung Dzong, the Kichu Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the country and the Drugyal Dzong (Bhutan’s Victory Fort)
Day 2 – Trek up to the Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery situated at 3180 meters. The Monastery is situated on the edge of a steep cliff.
Day 3 – Head to Thimphu which is the capital of Bhutan and explore the place, visit the Zoo to check out The TakinThe Tashichho Dzong, the textile and paper factory.
Day 4 – Take it easy in Thimphu and later in the noon drive to Punakha valley. Enjoy the scenic drive to the valley.
Day 5 – Hike around the valley, get some adventure via River rafting, or check out another Dzong the Punakha Dzong. Head out to Paro to spend the Night there
Day 6 – Have an easy and relaxed morning and head back home.
